Sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3)

 Sodium hydrogen carbonate is made by saturating a solution of sodium carbonate with carbon dioxide. The white crystalline powder of sodium hydrogen carbonate, being less soluble, get separated out.

This compound is also known as baking soda.

Properties :

On heating, it gives Na2CO3 and CO2

It's aqueous solution is alkaline due to hydrolysis

Uses :

i) It is used in the fire extinguisher.

ii) It is used as a constituent of baking powder.

iii) In medicine to minimize the acidity of stomach (antacid).

iv) Baking powder is a mixture of starch, sodium hydrogen carbonate and potassium hydrogen tarteate.
